Problem Space
As we tend to eat more outside, spending time waiting for orders and between orders has increased. This not only decreases our appetite for food but also ruins the experience at a restaurant
Solution
An app that will let users order food before even dining in a restaurant or perhaps immediately after getting in. This will also reduce the lag between the order being accepted and reaching to the chef(s)
But Why?
You might ask - aren't there waiters for the same?, Waiters are efficient but not enough when you have a large amount of people dining and to keep up with orders is not an easy task. This app will let users place their orders directly and also make payments, a piece of cake
The Process
Research
I started my research by analyzing existing players in the market that offer similar services.
-
What are some existing options that I can use for in-restaurant food ordering?
-
What features do these services offer?
-
What is their business model and how they earn money?
Competitive Analysis
These are some existing service provider in online menu ordering space but each one has it's own flaws which can be worked upon to deliver an overall better experience
Surveys
The following data is collected using google form and is based on over 250 responses from people who visited restaurants during the survey period.
Age group
As per the survey it is observed that majority of the farming population is around 30-40 years of age however there is also an equal distribution of age group in between 20-40+.
Customer Experience
As per the survey it is observed that majority of the farming population is around 30-40 years of age however there is also an equal distribution of age group in between 20-40+.
Current Difficulties
Farmers face a major difficulty dealing with pests and weather. Farm expenditure is also a problem for crops that require huge upfront investment like grapes and Indian jujube etc.
Similar System Usage
As the survey indicated not many Indian farmers use any farming assistant or tool, this can mainly be due to the language barrier, as not many apps support regional languages, also farmers are not aware of such apps due to lack of exposure to technology.
Research Insights
After competitive analysis and user surveys I tried to make sense of the data by narrowing down the major problems down to three main points to provide a minimum viable product and ensure that customers don't face these problems with our solution.
Key Pain Points
-
Customers don't like waiting for waiters to take their orders
-
Customers also find it difficult to order between meal
-
Payment Methods and the process itself is another hassle after the meal
Synthesis
Following the research process I started creating personas and sketching out ideas for different features of the application, I then created a user journey map that helped me guide the users progression throughout the app.
Personas
These personas were created based on user research and people who dine out regularly. This helped me understand and get into the shoes of users. I used to refer to these personas while designing the app. These are no real people just a reflection of the potential user.
User Journey Map
I created a user journey map to understand the user flow throughout the application and how navigation will work, this also helped me to focus on the essential aspects like ordering and payments.
Sketches
Following user journey mapping, I created rough sketches of how the design elements of the app would look like.
Visual Design Elements
I had to choose a color palette that suits the vibe of enjoyment, so I decided to go with a subtle yellow and some bold brown. For font-style I chose GILROY with some fancy bold asthetics
